1. Amalfi Coast
The Amalfi Coast is renowned throughout the world for the unique beauty of its landscapes. Twisting roads winding through rocky cliffs reveal tantalising glimpses of small villages and secluded bays, all looking out over a clear blue sea. Lush green Mediterranean flora colours the slopes of the surrounding hills and cliffs. This journey leads you to towns of worldwide fame such as Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello.
From here you will have the opportunity to visit the extraordinary archaeological site of Pompeii, a flourishing Roman town that was totally covered with ash 25 metres deep when Mount Vesuvius erupted in AD79. The lack of air and moisture preserved the relics here in a state rarely found elsewhere. The minutiae of daily life that these ruins reveal is quite remarkable.
2. The Gulf of Naples
The Gulf of Naples is home to a small town with a huge reputation. Sorrento is a quaint beautiful town with a narrow ravine running through it's historical core. Here you will find many fine old shops selling the ceramics, lacework and the local liqueur made from Sorrento lemons, limoncello, that are all famously produced here, as well as some magnificent hotels combing old world charm with five star service and amenities. Naples itself is a frenetic, unlikely treasure steeped in history and culinary delights.
Capri is the legendary idyllic jewel of the islands in the Bay of Naples. The two chic towns, Capri and Anacapri has some great shopping offering something a bit unique, from shoes and fabrics to pottery and jewellery along with cool cafes and ritzy restaurants. The lesser known and quieter Ischia is volcanic outcrop famous for its thermal spas, faultless landscaped gardens and an impressive Aragonese castle.
In the middle of the Mediterranean Sea there is the paradise island of Sardinia lying just 12 miles south of Corsica. Here your charter itinerary features brilliantly clear waters, dazzling white beaches, pink granite coastline, sheltered coves and anchorage. Porto Cervo is the hub of activity on Sardinia and the heart of the Emerald coast, beloved by both superyacht owners and charterers. Created by the Aga Khan 50 years ago, it's an eclectic mix of colorful fishing villages, high-class boutiques and beautiful villas.
Sardinia is also home to the many islands of the Archipelago of La Maddalena - one of Italy’s best-kept secrets. Unspoilt and charming, they provide excellent sailing and cruising. With over sixty islands, islets and rocks there are many different sand beaches edged by beautiful, clear shining seas of blue and turquoise.
Sicily is Italy's largest island with a land area of 25,706 sq km (9,925 sq miles), as well as being also the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea.The diversity of her landscapes create a striking welcoming image. The clear crystal blue seas contrast the dramatic volcanic and mountain scenery alongside flowering meadows.
Because of its strategic location (latitude 38 degrees north), Sicily has been invaded countless times over the centuries, by the Greeks, Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Normans and Spaniards. Each of the occupiers left behind their cultural influences that have blended to give Sicily a personality as distinctive as the architecture it is home to. A visit to Sicily is an experience to be treasured.
4. The Aeolian Islands
Rising out of the Tyrrhenian Sea, some fifteen miles off the Sicilian coast, The Aeolian Islands - Lipari, Salina, Stromboli, Vulcano, Panarea, Filicudi and Alicudi — with their black beaches of volcanic soil, volatile mountains emitting gas and flames, and dazzling clear light, have everything to make your yacht charter an unforgettable experience.
Colourful fishing boats line lively ports filled with charming cafes, bars and restaurants. While the islands’ interiors offer the most varied and contrasting landscapes and scenery, their crystal clear water bays, coves, active volcanoes, isolated reefs, white painted houses, and archaeological sites are unmatched for beauty and drama. Sailing here is away from the normal highly populated tourist tracks. Although Italians have been holidaying in the Aeolian islands for years, the rest of the world is only just now awaking to their charms.
5. The Ligurian Coast
The Ligurian coast in north-western Italy, borders with France, and is known for its picturesque blend of mountains, green hillsides, rocky coastline, broken by sandy coves, and always the azure Ligurian Sea. The beguiling villages here benefit from the bounty of the Ligurian Sea and all its biodiversity, as well as being a sanctuary for sperm whales, rorqual whales and dolphins. On land, vineyards, olive groves and citrus orchards present visitors will a plethora of nature's richness to savour and explore.
Along a beautifully remote 6-mile kink the five (cinque) fishing villages of the Cinque Terre are its most iconic and seductive highlight. This mostly mountainous stretch of the Riviera kept these tiny towns incredibly isolated for centuries and even to this day, while tourism has come and given this area a prosperity it never had in the past, there is still a feeling of relaxed genuineness to the place.
